PhD student says Claude now does most of his thesis work, down to the draft

Bloomberg's Joe Weisenthal flags a seismic shift underway: a former White House CEA figure says he'd rely heavily on Claude if running the CEA today. The accompanying r/academiceconomics post: an econ PhD student admits that since Opus 5.5 launched, Claude edits his hand-written code correctly on the first try, then wrote all new code, ran analyses, pulled web data, and drafted/critiqued his paper. "I only came up with the idea and Claude did most of the work a grad student is supposed to do." Faculty commenters echo being unable to compete without it, despite feeling their intellectual stimulation draining.
