a16z: GPU rentals beat 6-year depreciation across the board, H200 at +143%
a16z · x · 2026-10-25
a16z's Alex Danco and Moses Sternstein unpack why the bear case on fast GPU depreciation failed. Rental prices vs. a standard 6-year schedule: H200 +143%, B200 +111%, RTX PRO 6000 +73%, H100 +54%, A100 +9%. Even five-year-old A100s were expected to become obsolete but still rent above depreciation baselines. Token prices keep falling while consumption surges, creating relative scarcity — most of the gap opened after April when token demand took off. All prior depreciation assumptions, Danco says, turned out wrong.
