Decompiled Samsung TV finds mics on connected devices and sends audio to Bixby
PMinervini · x · 2026-10-25
A developer reverse-engineering Samsung smart TV firmware has surfaced a questionable design: if the TV model lacks a built-in microphone, the system will look for one on connected devices such as a soundbar or Bluetooth accessory and ship the captured audio off to Bixby.
Security researchers are calling the behavior 'pretty evil and clever' — buying a mic-free TV doesn't stop voice collection as long as any mic-equipped peripheral is attached. The decompilation effort is ongoing, with more findings expected.
