Open-source Spindle: drag a file onto a wheel to convert, compress or edit — built with Claude Code
narcissistic_retard · reddit · 2026-10-24
Inspired by the Mac app Tangerine, a developer used Claude Code to build Spindle, a fully open-source file tool for Windows and Linux that works entirely offline with nothing uploaded. Features:
- Convert PDFs, images, Word, PowerPoint and Excel files
- Compress to an exact target size (e.g. "under 50 KB" for exam forms)
- Merge multiple files into one PDF
- Crop, annotate, redact and strip location data from photos
Interaction is drag-and-drop onto a wheel UI. Source is on GitHub with tutorial videos for setup; feedback and bug reports welcome.
