User warns: before linking your bank to ChatGPT Finances, turn off model training
NickSlayr · reddit · 2026-10-25
A Reddit user shares a safety breakdown of ChatGPT's official Finances feature: bank connections go through Plaid in read-only mode — ChatGPT can't see full account numbers or move money, but it can access balances, transaction history, and investment/liability info, and uses that financial activity to answer questions.
The screenshot suggests three precautions: turn off "Improve the model for everyone" under Settings → Data Controls (otherwise individual-account data may be used for training); enable strong 2FA on the ChatGPT account; and know how to disconnect — synced data is deleted from OpenAI's systems within 30 days of disconnection.
