New benchmark tests LLMs' training intuition: predict which optimizer setup wins
ZimingLiu11 · x · 2026-10-24
MetaCircle AI's Research Exposition Day 1 introduces "Architecture IQ", a benchmark where each question pairs a synthetic dataset (regression, classification, or next-token prediction) with three training recipes, and models must predict which combination of model, optimizer, and hyperparameters yields the lowest test loss.
A sample in the announcement shows model fable correctly reasoning that Adagrad's ever-accumulating denominator freezes effective steps while RMSprop's EMA keeps them constant, picking the winning config (final MSE 0.004). Paper, code, and an interactive demo are public.
