Miyamoto on AI: as tools take over the basics, real design ability finally shows

SebAaltonen argues art has layers like programming: not doing the lowest layer manually doesn't make it less of an art — designers needn't hand-paint letters, and programmers needn't hand-write ASM (a compiler or Codex can do that).
The attached quote from Miyamoto: in his era, designers proved themselves by hand-lettering, but as computers and word processors advanced, text and images could be fetched and rendered for you — when technical skills get absorbed by tools, a person's sense of layout and individual design ability finally comes to the surface.
