Open-source the-brains: MCP server with 42 founder knowledge bases to stop hallucinated quotes

A developer released The Brains, an MIT-licensed MCP server with knowledge bases for 42 founders and investors (Paul Graham, Naval, Pieter Levels, etc.) to fix LLMs' habit of fabricating quotes — citations (title, date, URL) come attached from the index, not written by the model.

Build pipeline: cheap metadata discovery, then a Claude agent following a written runbook shortlists 15-45 long-form sources plus 60-300 posts per person; headless Claude Code generates summary cards and sectioned notes, yielding 18,295 chunks with a per-person index.

Counterintuitively it uses BM25 over embeddings: each brain is only a few hundred single-domain chunks, so keyword search suffices — the index is 80 lines of dependency-free TypeScript, no vector DB, no re-embedding on updates. The known weakness is vocabulary mismatch, mitigated by letting the calling model rewrite queries. First 10 people scraped for $3.50.
