antirez makes the case for local AI as hacker's Samsung TV snooping saga hits HN
antirez · x · 2026-10-24
Redis creator antirez boosted an HN front-page story to argue for local AI. The story: a hacker reverse-engineered a Samsung TV and found its on-board AI listening, then got an OpenAI account suspended. Responding to the objection that "the money for local hardware buys 5 years of a 20x subscription", antirez retorts: that's 5 years where you are told what you can do — cloud AI leaves you exposed to bans and vendor control, while local deployment keeps you in charge.
