China's Jiuzhang 4.0 claims 10^42-year speedup in 25 microseconds — but the task has no practical use

A quoted thread on China's Jiuzhang 4.0: in May it ran a boson sampling task in 25 microseconds that would supposedly take the El Capitan supercomputer over 10^42 years (peer-reviewed in Nature). The big caveat: boson sampling was designed to be classically infeasible and has no practical use — it proves quantum advantage, not usefulness. The author notes a separate Beijing team's news matters more.
