AI Will Make Art About the Process, Not the Result — and That's Good

Starting from the history of musical notation, the author notes that while notation has value, music is meant to be alive and passed down, as in jazz and folk traditions.
He extends this to AI: as models get better at writing music, making art, and telling stories, creative work may become more like music — about the doing rather than the final product. Art, he argues, should never be made to please others; that is what commercialization is for. He hopes that as AI-generated work becomes ubiquitous and fewer artists are needed, creators still find joy in the process itself rather than competing for attention.
