Modal clones its own employee: open-weight models give LiveKit agents a video avatar
charles_irl · x · 2026-10-24
Cloud platform Modal demoed a reproducible agent stack: running open-weight models on Modal to give a LiveKit voice/video agent a real-time video avatar. They used it to clone their own "GPU Enjoyer in Residence," charlesirl — the screenshot shows an avatar-based support-style agent that handles text and voice. charlesirl reposted with the quip that every good engineer is always aiming to automate away their current job. The LiveKit + Modal + open-weights combo is a concrete recipe for building visually embodied agents.
