'Prestige is not proof': thread says a Nobel Prize is no license to prophesy AI doom
AlexTensor · x · 2026-10-24
Concluding his thread, AlexTensor argues that of the three AI-risk claims, the first two (ML amplifying real harms, irresponsible corporate deployment) are observable but neither establishes the third (machines becoming conscious superintelligences that destroy humanity), which requires a plausible causal mechanism, evidence, and falsifiable predictions. Historical analogy is not scientific evidence: listen to Hinton, but evaluate his ideas as arguments — prestige is not proof, and a Nobel Prize is not a license to prophesy.
