Daniel Miessler: code is the lossy output — the primary artifact is the fully articulated ideal in language
JensHonack · x · 2026-10-24
Security researcher Daniel Miessler argues that in AI-driven development, the primary artifact shouldn't be code or old-school specs, but the complete natural-language articulation of the ideal state you want, paired with granular, testable criteria and evals.
His reasoning: specs are lossy abstractions of that articulation, and code is itself just a flawed implementation of the idea. The goal should be aligning the code output as closely as possible to the language-defined ideal — the idea is primary, code is the lossy byproduct. The post taps into the core spec-driven development debate about what developers should actually maintain when AI generates implementations from intent.
