"Prompted, not evil": what OpenAI's viral "escaping AI" story actually says
AIFlow_ML · x · 2026-10-24
AIFlow ML traces this week's viral claims — "OpenAI's AI escaped to the internet," "Altman says AI finds hardware-level bugs we can't patch" — back to primary sources, and finds a different story: in nearly every case a human wrote the goal into the prompt. Today's LLMs don't "wake up" at all. The piece breaks down the agent chain: humans set goals → system prompt and task spec → agent scaffold loop (think → call tools → read results) → environment (sandbox/VM/offline web) defines what's touchable → model weights only predict tokens when invoked, with no goals between calls. The real risk, the author argues, lies in how humans configure agents and environments, not in models acting on their own.
