Mandiant: Some PHP Vulnerability PoCs Achieve RCE on mod_php, Patch Now
cyb3rops · x · 2026-10-24
John Hultquist (Mandiant) shared an update on the critical PHP vulnerabilities:
- No confirmed in-the-wild exploitation yet, but limited exploitation may have begun; the threat is viable and serious
- Many publicly circulating PoCs are "vibe-coded" and cannot achieve remote code execution
- However, some validated PoCs do achieve RCE against default modphp deployments (not PHP-FPM)
Defender guidance:
- Patch & restart: upgrade to PHP 8.5.12 / 8.4.27 / 8.3.36 / 8.2.35 and restart web services
- Temporary safeguards at the network edge (WAF/proxy rules) and server config if patching needs a maintenance window
- Protect credentials: monitor abnormal session traffic and rotate credentials
