Amazon CEO Andy Jassy: AI will get you to an 'advanced starting spot' faster, but human judgment is your edge
a16z · x · 2026-10-24
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy advised young people that AI will enable them to "invent in ways that just weren't possible" before, and that ignoring it is not an option — the only path is to learn it and use it heavily.
Using business school as an example, he noted that tasks like analyzing three cases a day, heavy reading, note-taking and extracting key issues largely go away with AI, which gets everyone to an advanced starting point much faster. But assembling the dots into a strategy, plan, new product or customer experience is something AI won't do for most people most of the time.
He stressed that AI doesn't replace critical reasoning — human judgment, ingenuity, experimentation and invention remain the differentiator.
