Moonshot explains its capped-cyber-capability strategy for K3.1 Pro open weights
cephaloform · x · 2026-10-24
Community discussion of Moonshot's open-weight safety stance from the K3.1 Pro release blog: it will not release open weights extending the absolute frontier of cyber capability (K3.1 Pro's offensive cyber capability is by design below what its pipeline can produce), while progressively raising the cyber capability available in open weights and offering them non-discriminatorily so defenders also gain dual-use tools. A capable open model running on user-controlled infrastructure lets far more teams audit the code they maintain — including legacy systems that rarely get security reviews — and gradual diffusion beats sudden release.
