Qdrant benchmarks Cohere Embed 5 Pro: one dense vector per PDF page vs ColPali
qdrant_engine · x · 2026-10-23
Qdrant tested whether Cohere's Embed 5 Pro, which encodes a full PDF page image into a single 2048-dim vector, can rival late-interaction models like ColPali.
- One vector per page runs on ordinary HNSW with no OCR step
- Late interaction handles charts and tables well but costs a thousand vectors per page, and MaxSim can't use HNSW directly, making it hard to scale
