Google funds one of the largest virtual power plants to free up electricity for data centers

To power AI data centers, Google announced a deal with Voltus to build one of the largest US "virtual power plants" on the PJM grid: Voltus will provide up to 1,070 MW of capacity — roughly a large nuclear reactor's output — not from new plants but by paying homes and businesses to curb usage when the grid is strained, much of it automated. Grady Booch quips it's "carbon offset credits, but for tokens."
