BofA survey: only 17% of CIOs see AI ROI, 31% more expect it within 12 months

A BofA survey of 300 CIOs finds just 17.2% report enterprise-wide AI ROI today, with another 31.4% expecting it within 12 months — together 48.6% see current or near-term returns, and 30.7% expect them in 1-2 years. Meanwhile, 91.2% of respondents increased AI compute use over the past year, 54% significantly. Ed Zitron mocks the gap: four years into the bubble, ROI is somehow always 12 months away.
