Benchhand: open-source Rust MCP client with editable tool approvals and per-agent models
AnshSuc · reddit · 2026-10-23
A developer released Benchhand, an Apache-2.0 Rust desktop MCP client for Windows/Linux built around human review of tool calls.
- Editable approvals: each call pauses with visible arguments — approve, reject, or edit values; the runtime validates edits and reports what actually ran back to the model
- Security posture: managed npm installs use a private directory with install scripts disabled, secrets live in the OS credential store, and the marketplace verifies exact versions from the official MCP Registry
- Per-agent models: each agent can run a different local or cloud model
Caveats disclosed: no sandbox for local servers, signed catalogs prove identity not safety, and interactive OAuth/legacy SSE are unsupported.
