Agent Orgs Win on Latency: ~4x Faster Than Budget-Forced Single Agent
rosstaylor90 · x · 2026-10-23
On the latency-vs-performance debate, the Avalon team 'budget forced' a single-agent mode to use the same tokens as an 8-agent organization. That closes about 3/5 of the gap, but is far slower—organizations finish roughly 4x faster on some held-out evals.
The picture is mixed: for long-horizon tasks, organizations start slower due to coordination overhead, then overtake the single agent, e.g. on EdgeBench after about 1.7 hours.
