Google Cloud London outage hit banking, delivery and public services, exposing cloud resilience gaps
DavidLinthicum · x · 2026-10-23
Cloud expert David Linthicum uses the recent Google Cloud incident in London to warn that resilience isn't inherited by moving to a hyperscaler. The bigger issue wasn't a region failing but the dependency chain: banking, delivery, transportation, public services and appointment systems all felt the impact because they were tied to the same underlying infrastructure. Providers offer regions, zones, replication, backups and recovery tools — but those are building blocks, and enterprises must still design their own cross-region resilience and dependency governance.
