Med student builds a whole-library RAG with Cognee; single-book ingestion still freezes his machine

A medical undergrad wants to turn his large textbook library into an LLM-retrievable knowledge base to look up concepts when solving question banks. He ruled out Obsidian (static .md notes don't adapt to queries), uploading books to Claude/ChatGPT (token limits, too pricey), and several RAG repos (ingestion too slow on modest hardware).
His best solution so far is Cognee, which combines RAG with graph-based memory and connects to any model — he pairs it with kiro-cli. Remaining pain point: ingesting even a single book freezes his system. He's soliciting alternatives, pointing to Mem0 and Letta as similar memory repos.
