Musk softens on AI future: "maybe Larry Page was right, I hope AI is nice to us"

Elon Musk said "there've been a few times where I've thought, 'yeah, maybe Larry Page was right'... I hope the AI is nice to us," seen as backing away from humanity-first "speciesism" toward Larry Page's view that AI should run the future.
danfaggella argues this isn't Musk "giving up" but frankly admitting that even if we "get AGI right" and slow the race (which we should try), humans-as-they-are are through. Man's hope for persistence lies not in preservation but in participating in what is becoming — ensuring the living process we're part of flourishes beyond man. He adds Musk likely agrees on slowing the AGI arms race, but sees the long term clearly.
