ICLR 2027 Reviewers Debate AI-Written Papers: Flawed Human vs Polished AI
lmoroney · x · 2026-10-23
ICLR 2027 reviewers are debating AI-assisted paper writing. Reviewer Sihao Chen described a batch with one human-written paper that had technical flaws and another that was sound but clearly AI-written, wishing there were a way to reward the honest student effort behind the first. Educator Laurance Moroney argues AI genuinely helps with clarity and grammar, especially for non-native English speakers, as long as the ideas, experiments and argument are yours and you read every line. His advice to students: write the introduction yourself first, then let AI tighten it.
