Microsoft Research's Flint-interactive turns AI-generated charts into clickable dashboards
aigclink · x · 2026-10-23
Microsoft Research released Flint-interactive, extending Flint so AI-generated charts become clickable, filterable, linked analysis interfaces—aimed at business analysis, financial research and scientific work.
Key capabilities:
- Interaction presets: click-to-filter, box selection, cross-chart linking out of the box (e.g. select countries in one scatter plot and another year's chart highlights them)
- Semantic events: user actions become meaningful data events
- Interaction interfaces: chart operations connect to external app state; selected data can feed back to the AI as next-round context
It separates 'what the interaction does' from 'how it renders' via semantic events plus update operators: the AI declares intent in a description language, while the Flint compiler handles events, graphics updates and dependencies—no more hand-writing JavaScript and debugging interaction state for every dashboard.
