A recap thread of the AGNTCon + MCPCon keynote on where MCP is heading:
- AAIF (Agentic AI Foundation) now has 305 members across 15 sectors, from Anthropic and OpenAI to AWS, Microsoft, Visa and Alibaba.
- Agent Skills joins AAIF alongside Open Responses, OpenEnv and OpenSandbox, bringing the foundation to 10 hosted projects.
- Adoption (Aug 2026): 500M monthly Tier-1 SDK downloads, 180K stars across MCP repos, 6x growth in Vercel MCP adapter downloads in six months.
- The July 28 release made remote MCP servers stateless — the largest revision since launch, letting them run like normal HTTP services.
- Five roadmap priorities: agentic messaging (Tasks/Events), richer semantics incl. Skills over MCP, authorization & identity, HTTP-native transport, SDK DX.
- Elicitation is live in Claude, letting servers ask users questions mid-action; Tasks handles async work while Events (server push) is in development.
- Growth proof points: Resend saw 1M MCP calls in a month; Railway and MagicPath reported explosive daily MCP user growth. OpenAI's takeaway: a useful MCP integration is itself a distribution channel.
