Perplexity ships Decider for Mac, running its 4B decision model locally with no API key
perplexity_ai · x · 2026-10-23
Perplexity released Decider for Mac, an app that runs the 4B decision model pplx-decider-flash-v1.2 fully on-device, serving the Decisions API at 127.0.0.1:8080 with no API key and no usage bill.
Key points:
- Built for content that can't leave your machine: customer exports, meeting notes, internal-tool screenshots, token-bearing logs; it classifies both text and images locally
- Requests use the same JSON as the hosted Decisions API, so switching to hosted scale or the larger pplx-decider-v1.2 is just a URL change plus an Authorization header
- Requires Apple silicon and macOS 13+; the app downloads a 5.8GB model on first launch
- Free local runs let you tune questions and thresholds across thousands of labels before moving to the hosted API
