OpenAI support wrongly cancels his workspace, wiping a 48-month promo worth ~$1,100
Tile124 · reddit · 2026-10-23
A user on OpenAI's business "buy 1 seat, get 1 free for 48 months" promo accidentally let one seat renew as premium and opened a ticket asking only for a downgrade and prorated refund — never a cancellation.
Support cheerfully replied "Refund processed!" while also cancelling and deactivating his entire workspace. Despite acknowledging the mistake, support says there is "no way" to restore the promotional terms; the only option is resubscribing at full price — roughly $25/month extra for the 44 months remaining, about $1,100 to fix a mistake OpenAI admits it made. A screenshot shows his email pleading not to cancel the subscription.
He warns anyone on a promotional OpenAI plan to think twice before letting support touch billing, and asks if anyone has actually had a promo restored.
