Journalist publishes a practical digital security checklist for the AI age
jammastergirish · x · 2026-10-23
Journalist Girish Gupta warns that rapidly rising AI capabilities will drive huge, foundational cyberattacks, and published a tickbox checklist (plus an automated script) for ordinary people:
- Start with email — whoever controls it can reset your bank, broker and cloud accounts
- Buy two hardware keys (e.g. YubiKey), enroll both, keep one as a drawer backup
- Close the recovery backdoors: recovery phone/email and security questions are often easier to attack than passwords; use modes like Google Advanced Protection to remove weak routes
- Use a never-posted email address for your bank and government
He frames it as a pragmatic compromise for the general public, not a comprehensive guide.
