MathEconLib open-sourced: Axiom Math and top economists bring machine-checked proofs to economics in Lean 4
soumitrashukla9 · x · 2026-10-23
Axiom Math and leading economists have open-sourced MathEconLib, a shared formal foundation in Lean 4 for economic theory.
- Provides machine-checked definitions and reusable theorems spanning micro theory (preferences, games, mechanism design, general equilibrium), macro (dynamic optimization, heterogeneous-agent models), and econometrics (identification, estimation, causal inference).
- Researchers may use AI to assist formalization, but the mathematical architecture is human-determined, Lean's kernel verifies every theorem, and contributions get human review.
- Built on Mathlib; core contributors include Scott Duke Kominers (Harvard/a16z), Ken Ono, Bo Cowgill, and others from Princeton, Toronto, and beyond.
