Anthropic launches Cyber Mission to defend critical infrastructure and open source
inductionheads · x · 2026-10-23
Anthropic officially launched the Anthropic Cyber Mission, a long-term security commitment starting in two areas:
- Critical Infrastructure Defense Program (CIDP): bringing frontier models, on-site engineers, and threat research to defenders of operational technology behind power grids, water systems, transportation, and government systems. Staffer logangraham suggested it may need to serve 100k–1M defenders with 10k engineers focused on critical infrastructure within 18 months.
- OSS Scanner: free regular security scans for open-source projects using Anthropic's strongest models, finding vulnerabilities and proposing patches.
Context: Anthropic notes state-sponsored adversaries have spent years establishing footholds across sectors, while defenders and the OSS community face severe resource shortages; prior Project Glasswood work already uncovered many vulnerabilities with partners.
