TLA+ expert corrects Grok: TLC only exhausts finite state spaces, not all behaviors
tianyin_xu · x · 2026-10-23
Formal methods expert @tianyinxu points out Grok's basic errors: TLA is a formal logic, while TLA+ is a specification language built on it, and TLA can be embedded in other languages (e.g., Anvil's TLA embedding for Verus). He also corrects that TLC, the model checker, exhaustively explores only a finite state space, not all possible executions — for guarantees over all behaviors one needs TLAPS, the proof system for mechanically checked mathematical proofs.
