mcp-overleaf: an open-source MCP server with 17 tools to stop AI from breaking your LaTeX
Rare-Raccoon-8997 · reddit · 2026-10-23
An academic writer built mcp-overleaf (MIT, v0.1.2) from scratch after AI tools kept rewriting entire LaTeX files and compile errors were hard to trace. The MCP server exposes 17 tools connecting Overleaf to AI coding assistants.
- Uses Overleaf's official Git integration by default (paid/institutional plan); compile and comments go through Overleaf's internal web endpoints, off by default, with ToS-conflict risk documented in the README
- The author only has a free plan, so Git mode was tested only against a local Git repo; feedback via issues is welcome
- It's a fresh alternative to mjyoo2/OverleafMCP, which had gone unmaintained for months
