CircleCI: top teams now ship 10.4x more often than median as AI widens the gap
rseroter · x · 2026-10-23
CircleCI's State of Software Delivery Q3 Pulse report, based on 22M+ workflows, finds:
- The velocity gap widened to 10.4x: top-5% main-branch workflows now run 10.4 times as often as the median (up from 9.1x in Q2). The median still runs 1.7 times/day while the top 5% approach 18.
- Gains concentrate at the top: since Q1, throughput grew just 5% for the bottom 75% vs 31% for the top 5%.
- AI is helping developers produce more code and better CI makes it easier to validate — builds pass more often and finish faster — yet most organizations aren't actually shipping any faster.
Takeaway: teams merging to main more frequently pull further ahead; if your delivery velocity isn't rising, you're falling behind.
