Amazon Polly Generative engine upgrade adds 14 voices, first Hindi and Finnish generative voices

AWS shipped a major upgrade to the Amazon Polly Generative engine, now generally available:
- Bigger catalog: 14 new voices across 9 locales, totaling 57 generative voices in 11 languages and 25 locales; Hindi and Finnish generative voices GA for the first time; expansion to AWS GovCloud (US-West) for 11 regions total
- Drop-in upgrade: voice names and APIs unchanged, so existing apps get more natural, expressive speech in place; prosody adapts to textual context (neutral/uncertain/surprised renditions of the same line)
- Accuracy: better pronunciation of numbers, currency, addresses, and confirmation codes; Bi-Di streaming API (StartSpeechSynthesisStream) for low-latency voice agents
- Same price: no cost increase, no new SKU, free caching of static prompts
Target use cases span contact-center IVR, cascaded LLM voice agents, media localization, e-learning, and accessibility. Finland's Sanoma Media, publishing 10,000+ audio articles monthly with Polly, says the new Finnish voice Suvi is a clear improvement.
