Together AI and Stanford's Next-Concept Modeling: 10-31x faster than diffusion LMs at equal quality

Together AI and Stanford's HazyResearch present Next-Concept Modeling (NCM, arXiv 2610.14162), bringing the next-scale prediction recipe from VAR — NeurIPS 2024's best paper on images — into text. NCM first generates a coarse multi-sentence concept outline in parallel, then iteratively refines each segment until full text is recovered, a coarse-to-fine parallel scheme that challenges sequential next-token modeling. Across experiments it matches or exceeds quality while running 10-31x faster than diffusion language models.
