Vercel engineer shuding (Next.js core team) optimized his syntax highlighting tool to be 3.8x faster, cutting highlighting time for three.min.js from 850ms to 221ms — still behind @pierrecomputer's solution (75.3ms).
A benchmark chart compares warmed-browser times across highlighters: Highlights 75.3ms, gpu-lexer 220.5ms, Sugar High 820ms, Prism.js 1.24s, Highlight.js 1.36s, Starry Night 11.4s, Shiki 30.4s. He also published a longer write-up of his thoughts (linked in the post).
