Railway Breach: All Users Urged to Rotate Secrets After Intruder Decrypts Env Variables
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-10-22
Cloud developer platform Railway disclosed a security incident in which an unauthorized third party accessed encrypted customer environment variables—and for some of them, obtained the decrypted contents. Env variables typically hold API keys, database passwords and cloud credentials.
Key details:
- Railway believes this is part of a broader attack series targeting platform companies to compromise AI inference providers, and has notified upstream providers to proactively revoke all keys.
- Although initial analysis suggests only a subset of users is affected, Railway is urging every customer to immediately roll all environment variables, API keys and private registry credentials, and review logs for anomalies.
- All deployments are paused; Railway froze builds and reset bucket keys and GitHub tokens itself while the investigation continues.
