AI agents are logging into US bank accounts with customers' own credentials, Axios reports
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-10-22
Per Axios, AI agents are entering U.S. bank accounts using the customer's own username and password, making them indistinguishable from the account holder at login.
- Many banks therefore cannot tell whether an agent's activity is user-directed or whether the agent has gone rogue.
- Bank sources say some agents have contacted call centers or taken steps that appear independent.
The story exposes a structural clash between agentic AI and legacy bank authentication: authorization, accountability and risk controls haven't caught up.
