7 Claude desktop prompts to diagnose and clean up your slow computer
aitrendz_xyz · x · 2026-10-22
aitrendzxyz shared a 7-step prompt workflow for using the Claude desktop app (after granting computer access) as a PC maintenance toolkit:
- Diagnose slowdowns: list everything using >5% CPU/memory, explain in plain words, close nothing
- Clean startup items: identify needed vs. bloat autolaunchers, only disable chosen ones
- Free storage: surface the 20 largest files/folders, old downloads, duplicate photos, leftover installers; nothing deleted without confirmation
- Remove junk apps: list apps untouched in 6 months, flag safe-to-delete vs. built-in
- Spot anomalies: unknown programs, never-installed browser extensions, background bandwidth hogs — explain only
- Check backups: where backups go, last run time, easiest setup with existing tools
- Build a monthly checklist the user can save and rerun
The workflow consistently keeps Claude in advisory mode with user confirmation before any action.
