Claude Desktop 2.0 hands-on: the Code tab replaces VS Code for non-engineers
PawelHuryn · x · 2026-10-22
PM influencer Paweł Huryn reviews the rebuilt Claude Desktop and argues its Code tab is now Claude Code with a friendly interface — non-engineers no longer need VS Code.
Key new features:
- Files: open, edit, or leave Claude a comment
- Versioning: see what Claude changed, or pick a Git branch
- Built-in browser: Claude runs your app and verifies its own changes
- Visual feedback: draw on your prototype
- Split view: run multiple sessions side by side
His getting-started advice: use the Code tab, not Chat/Cowork (needs a paid plan; Cowork can't run your app or keep per-project skills/connectors); pick Haiku 5.5 for budget work, Opus 5.5 for the hardest tasks; set Effort to High (Extra on Opus). He calls it effectively a v2, echoing Anthropic devs who highlighted faster session spin-up and side-by-side session management.
