HolyArrs: one AI-built self-hosted app replaces the entire eight-piece *arr media stack
CoderLuii · reddit · 2026-10-22
Developer CoderLuii built HolyArrs with AI coding tools — a single self-hosted Go app (110 MB idle RAM) replacing Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, Bazarr, Prowlarr, Seerr, SABnzbd and qBittorrent, with a Netflix-style UI, trailer-on-hover, one-tap requests, built-in metadata, and a migration wizard. Optional AI features include natural-language search, BYO cloud/local models, and an MCP server so assistants can search and request for you; nothing leaves your server.
His AI build methodology:
- Research first: the AI studied 36 existing apps into manuals; all code builds only from those manuals
- Spec-driven: features match documented user expectations, not model guesses
- A live lab: real legacy apps run side-by-side for behavioral comparison
- Browser checks per page, secret scans per commit
- Key lesson: AI happily shipped features while idle RAM crept from 76 MB to 110 MB — only measuring every build caught it; metrics are now a release gate
Free and open source upcoming; beta testers with Jellyfin/Plex/Emby wanted.
