AI scientist De Kai: AIs are toddlers, not toasters — and regulation alone won't suffice
dekai123 · x · 2026-10-22
In "Raising AI," AI scientist De Kai argues your phone runs at least a hundred AIs that watch what you click, copy what you do, and seek your approval. A machine doesn't learn your habits — yell at a toaster for a year and it won't change; the right word for AIs is toddlers, not toasters.
From this framing he draws two conclusions: how we describe our "artificial children" shapes how they're raised, and while AI needs fast regulation, regulation alone won't be enough. Full episode on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
