Microsoft Research's official blog post details how researcher Xinzhi Zhang and a collaborator combined new mathematical ideas with human-directed AI to resolve the KLS conjecture, a central open problem in high-dimensional geometry and probability. AI agents explored candidate approaches, carried out derivations, helped prepare the manuscript and ran internal proof checks, closing a question open since 1995 in a 140-page proof.
