Codex desktop hit by 403 Cloudflare challenges on settings endpoints, blocking messages entirely
Handsome-Zan · ghdev · 2026-10-20
Issue #55489 on openai/codex reports recurring "Couldn't load workspace settings" errors on the Codex desktop app (version 26.1013.40934) that block sending messages, while the same account works fine on the web.
Logs show repeated 403 cloudflarechallenge responses on /settings/user and /accounts/check/{version}, plus 432 "Workspace routing is unavailable" errors. Logging out and back in only helps briefly before the failure returns. The reporter suspects issues in the desktop app's security verification and workspace state recovery.
