Gemini's fix for Gemini not working: switch back to Google Assistant
Historical-Hat-4718 · reddit · 2026-10-22
A Reddit user searched "gemini and google home doesnt work" and Google's AI answer suggested fixing the problem by switching the phone's default assistant back from Gemini to Google Assistant, re-linking the Google Home integration, or clearing caches — noting many users report Gemini struggles with smart home control, routines, and voice recognition.
Gemini recommending its own removal to fix itself is peak irony, and it reflects real friction since Gemini took over Google Assistant's smart home duties.
