Gradium open-sources Phonon TTS models under 50M params, smallest at 31M

Gradium open-sourced Phonon this week, a family of TTS models all under 50M parameters built for on-device, cross-language speech synthesis. The smallest, Phonon-31m, ships under Apache 2.0 — small enough to run locally for narration and character voices.
The author suggests AI filmmakers generate scratch voiceovers with a local model like this to check pacing of every line before paying for final voices.
